2. Officers' reports:
A. Commodore, Lindsey:
Halloween Party, this Friday, at Burne Sippy and Sonja Elmquist's place; directions will be sent out by e-mail to all hands.
The Nominating Committee solicits names, suggestions, volunteers to run for office.
B. Secretary, John:
1. The upcoming schedule for the UISC looks like this:
11/2/05 Wednesday, Exec. Officers' meeting.
11/9/05, Wed., Membership Meeting, first night for nominations
11/16/05, Wed., Membership Meeting, second night for nominations,

11/23/05-Thanksgiving Break
11/30/05, Wed., Membership Meering, Elections for next year's officers.
12/7 or thereabouts, Exec. Meeting for incoming and outgoing officers.
2. It takes a lot of talent and dedication to keep the Iowa Sailing Club going. Please consider telling the nominating committee (Lindsey, Lauren, Warren) that you can take on one of these jobs:
Club historian or archivist
Publicity dude
Scuttlebutt editor
Photo librarian
Web master
Social activities organizer
A parliamentarian
In addition, each of the elected officers needs a lot of extra help--teaching, boat repair, sail repair, data base maintenance, motor repair, etc.
3. To help the transition, preserve the insights won by this year's officers, and help next year's leaders, the secretary i8s circulating a questionnaire to each officer: “What in detail did your job entail; what sort of check list can you put into the hands of your successor?” Responses will be organized and made available for the transition meeting of 12/7.
C. Tug Committee report (Rich Adkins, Tom Hart, Dave Steinman, and Bill Budelier):
The tug committee recommends the purchase of a used 1995 John Deere Model 755 four wheel hydrostatic drive compact tractor with Roll Guard, three point hitch, and cross draw bar for $5300 from City Tractor Co, Coralville IA.
The price to include delivery in good operating condition /w/ manual.
Rationale: This selection represents the committee's best package considering cost to the club treasury, safe operation, potential years of service and user operability. The hydrostatic drive eliminates the need for a clutch. Dual brake foot pedals favor control at waters edge. The compact size favors boat yard maneuvers and the diesel engine provides adequate towing capacity.
Other models considered by the committee included a new Kubota RTV 900 which would serve as a good second choice. A cost of $10K and lighter drive train served to favor the JD 755. Kubota tractors were tested and served well for towing capacity, but braking configurations were of concern. Larger JD tractors were also considered and rejected for price and potential tow bar rollover potential. A replacement Skamp Tug was also rejected for cost $10K and concern over the current Skamp design for traction and stability for our uses.
D. Harbor Master, Dave:
A lot of winterizing accomplished last Saturday and Sunday. From Dave Steinman (Harbor Master) and Rich Adkins (Fleet Captain, alas from his sick bed) a hearty “Thanks” and nautical “Well done” to all volunteers who turned out for last week's winterizing (Saturday and Sunday, 10/22 & 23)

In addition, for next weekend, these tasks remain (report by e-mail):
The workbench is missing a set of needle nose pliers. If you have them or
know where they are, please return them to the workbench.
For those of you not able to make it to the meeting this Wednesday night
this is what is left to be done:
___Put away 4 FJs, 2 lasers, Hobie 16, the 470, a scow (MC or M16, I forget
which)
___Cover the scow cockpits w/8'x4' sheets of plywood
___Stretch-wrap the scows like we did last year
___Move the canoe box to the Boathouse
___Remove the outboard motor from the jon boat
___Flip the jon boat and store outside
___Put the doors on the Laser Shed
When all that's done then proceed with this:
Sweep out the floor of the Boathouse
Vacuum along windows and wall/floor edges
Clean up kitchenette area
Clean out refrigerator
Move the mobile racks away from the walls and sweep behind and under them.
This includes the rudder/tiller rack.
Organize lifejackets.
Empty the trash cans
Please come help this Saturday and possibly Sunday and plan on completing
these tasks. With a lot of people this will take little time.
Many thanks to those who have helped with boathouse closings past and
present.
I thought this was fitting for the club:

[or she] shall be able and willing to pull his [or her] weight."
-- Theodore Roosevelt
3. Unfinished Business
A. A motion (tabled last week, and returned to the floor) that the Club purchase 2 radial Laser sails and attendant gear for $631 each. Moved (Eric O./ Mark Gleaves) to table for two weeks (until 11/9) so that more information can be gathered regarding price, vender, and search of boathouse (possibly for one radial sail purchased some time ago). Motion discussed, question called, and it passes unanimously.
B. Moved (Rich A./John H) that the club purchase the used 1995 John Deere Model 755 four wheel hydrostatic drive compact tractor with Roll Guard, three point hitch, and cross draw bar for $5300 from City Tractor Co, Coralville IA. The price to include delivery in good operating condition /w/ manual.
Motion discussed, question called, it passes unanimously. The second vote to authorize a purchase exceeding $500 will take place 11/9/05.
5. Announcements, etc.
FRIDAY 10/28: Halloween Party (see Lindsey's e-mail announcement)
SATURDAY 10/29: Boathouse clean up & put-away starting about 11:00 (See Dave's list of jobs, above)
Also, about 1:00 to 3:00 team and Club racing. sailing team is planning a sail-off to determine who will represent the UISC at Area West Regatta next weekend to be held at Madison. All Club members are welcome to join as well. We will also need a couple of people to help run the races from the jon boat.
SUNDAY: Boat house clean-up and pu-away continues, starting about 1:00 (see HM's report above).
ALBATROSS: Three nominations this week:
--To Matias for "not being nice" and pushing Eric's boat away from him after he
jumped in for a swim and his boat sailed away.
--To Eric for jumping in for a swim in the first place.
--And to Casey (who won the famous bird) for her futile attempt to save a mast that she thought was falling when a team at Indiana was de-masting their boat. She ran valiantly across a field to catch the mast (which was already secured), even though she would have been too far away to
catch it if it had been falling.
