Minutes of the UIISC Members' Meeting, Wednesday, 11/9/2005. in the Purdue Room, 341 IMU, (to be read at the 11/23 Members' Meeting for additions, corrections, and adoption).

Commodore Lindsey Schneider called the meeting to order at 1705 hours, 13 persons attending, including Exec. Officers Lindsey S., John H, Eric O., Rich A., and Dave S., Heather C., and Warren D.

1.  Minutes from the Mbrs'Mtg of 10/26/05 (circulated to the membership by e-mail earlier) were adopted.

2.  Officers' reports:

A. Fleet Captain, Richard:

 a. The two new dollies are been received and will be brought to the boathouse this weekend.

 b. Last sailing day is scheduled for this weekend; all boats will be put away for winter by Sunday, 11/13.

B. Secretary, John:

 a.  The two editors of the SuperScuttlebutt will bring all-but-final copy for review by the members before printing and mailing the newsletter and fund-raising request out to current and former members of the UISC.

 b. At the end of the meeting, memorial UISC t-shirts will be offered for sale at rock-bottom prices.

 

C.  Commodore, Lindsey:

 a.  The Nominating Committee will put its nominations forward at the next meeting, 11/16.

 b.  At the Area West regatta last weekend, held at Madison, the 4 sailors representing Iowa placed 7th out of 9.  Members of the racing team will travel to Evanstan next weekend for the final regatta of the season, the Blow Hard Regatta at Northwestern.

3. Unfinished Business:

A.  The motion to purchase the John Deere tug was brought to the floor for a second vote.  Motion discussed, question called, and it passed once again.  It is now the will of the UISC members that this tug be purchased.

B.  Lauren (Warren Darling) moved the purchase of 2Laser  radial sail rigs at a cost not to exceed $1325.  Motion discussed, ,question called, and it passes unanimously.  A second, confirming vote, is scheduled for next week, 11/16.

 

 

4.  New Business:

A.  Commodore Lindsey opened the floor to nominations for officer positions for next year.

Motion to close the nominations passed unanimously.

B.  Mark Gleaves (Huntley) moved that:

I.    The Iowa Sailing Club shall sponsor a photography contest

     to run in the spring of 2006 with the following prize

     pool:

         A.  $100 in cash donated by Mark Gleaves and John Huntley.

         B.  A one-year student membership.

II.   Prior to January 1, 2006, the Executive Council shall appoint three people to serve as judges for the contest.  The judges and their immediate family members will be ineligible to enter the contest.

III.  Duties of the judges:

         A.  Prior to February 1, 2006, the judges shall  determine:

                 1.  The rules of the contest.

                 2.  The eligibility requirements.  One of the requirements must be that allentrants shall be required to allow the Club to freely publish or reproduce any photograph entered in the contest on the

Club's website or in its promotional materials.

                 3.  The entry procedures.

                 4.  The submission deadlines.

                 5.  The prize structure and the date prizes will be awarded.

                 6.  Any other particulars of the contest.

         B.  Prior to March 1, 2006, the judges shall post the following on the Club's website:

                 1.  An announcement of the contest

                 2.  The rules.

                 3.  The eligibility requirements.

                 4.  The entry procedures.

                 5.  The submission deadlines.

                 6.  The prize structure and the date prizes

                     will be awarded.

                 7.  Any  other information that the judges consider useful to potential entrants.

         C.  The judges shall do any other contest publicity as they see fit.

         D.  The judges shall run the contest and post all entries on the Club's website.

         E.  The judges shall judge the entries fairly based on the criteria specified in the rules.

         F.  The judges shall announce the winners on the Club's website and award the prizes promptly on the date specified in the rules.

IV.   The Club's webmaster shall assist the judges.

V.    The Club shall pay up to $10 for copying, postage, and other incidental expenses incurred in running and publicizing the contest.

Mark distributed printed copies of the motion which was discussed, called, the vote taken, and it passed unanimously.

5.  Announcements, etc.

A.  The Albatross: 3 recipients were nominated, but the coveted  bird was awarded, with loud acclaim, to Lauren and Lindsey whose interesting boat-handlig maneuvers on Lake Mendota led to the near-sinking of their sailboat.  They were, however, safely towed to shore.

B.  Artifacts from 3, 2, and a half year ago were offered for sale: $15 for a Club burgee; $3.00 for t-shirts.  The stampede of eager buyers was awesome to behold.  The sale continues next week.
