Minutes from UISC Executive Meeting on Wednesday, 2/8/06 in the Purdue Room, Room 341 in the IMU
The meeting was called to order by commodore Ben Miller-Todd at 6:32 p.m. There were 12 people attending.
I. The minutes from the last Executive Meeting on Jan. 18th, 2006 were read by Secretary Amy Rohlfing. Moved (Huntley/ Steinman) to approve minutes without change. Motion passes.
II. Officer Reports:
A. Ben, Commodore:
i. Executive meetings this season will be more informal than Members Meetings. He hopes for meetings to have a close, casual atmosphere to encourage the sharing of ideas.
ii. Executive meetings will be held the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 6:30 in the Purdue Room. If needed, a second meeting will be held after the Members Meeting on the 4th Wednesday of the month. This meeting will be held at the Sanctuary (or other such establishment) and will be announced via email. Hopefully all Executive officers will be able to attend at least one of these meeting times.
B. Dave Steinman, Harbor master:
i. Rec. Services is under the impression that the club is not using the boathouse during the winter months. Wayne Fett is probably concerned about the cost of the propane used to heat the boathouse.
ii. Warren Darling will talk to Wayne Fett and will offer to pay $5 extra/ month during winter to cover the cost of propane. He will also offer to buy a thermostat (to be installed by Rec. Services) that will automatically turn off after a certain amount of time. He will also bring a list of what we need the boathouse for during the winter (boat repairs, sail repairs, etc.)
and mention we only use the boathouse one or two days a week.
III. New Business:
A. John Huntley hopes to get more people involved in the club this year. He mentioned having all club members fill out a volunteer card every year. The club would then find a volunteer position for all members. We may need to nominate a volunteer chair to coordinate this. Erin Wehr-Flowers mentioned that we currently hand out volunteer cards to members who come to the teaching days. She feels it would be more profitable if we handed out cards when
members reach light-weather helmsman. They will feel positive about their accomplishment (and possibly be more willing to volunteer) and will know more about volunteer opportunities.
B. Matt Legg hopes to get an article about the club in the DI. Lots of students on and off campus read the DI and it would be a good way to get more people at the open house. Erin feels that we have enough teachers and boats to handle a large turnout at the open house.
Meeting adjourned at 7:01 p.m.
