Ed's Cup Match Races ('96)

The following are some pictures of the Ed's Cup match races, held on September 21st (a date that happens to be the winner's birthday). If you want to see all the pictures, they are available but downloading the page will take quite a while.

The format was five sets of three matches, with each of the six boats racing against each of the other five once. The course was quite long (for Macbride), stretched out lengthwise along the South arm. Weather was really nice, with winds between 10 and 15, and temp up around 70 to 75. The skippers and crew were:

Loren's Boat Loren and Siobhan
Mark's Boat Mark and Joy
Bill's Boat Bill and Laura
Grant's Boat Grant and Rick
Ben's Boat Ben and Cherise
Aaron's Boat Aaron and... and... ?
Start! The fifth match race included a race against the two undefeated boats, Loren and Mark. The match started off with the closest start of the day.
Upwind The upwind leg was a tacking war, with Loren gaining a little more ground against Mark with each tack.
Downwind The downwind leg saw Loren pull ahead of Mark significantly, and Loren had a clear lead by the time they reached the downwind mark.
Final Leg By the final leg, Loren was way ahead of Mark, and
End Game arrived at the finish line quite a distance ahead of Mark.
All pictures shot on an el-Cheapo Casio 10A digital camera. The green bands in some of the pictures are the result of too much light, as it was a bright, sunshiney day for most of the races.
