The student who has presented the SAAR form for the instructor's signature is approved for the accommodations as outlined on the form. Instructors may choose to have SDS administer quizzes, tests and exams or they may choose to make arrangements to administer the tests with the appropriate accommodations provided.
As the instructor, if you have decided to use the Student Disability Services’ (SDS) Alternative Exam Services (AES) to administer your exam(s) to the student, please note the following instructions and guidelines:
AES hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00am – 4:00pm for every week during the semester. Please schedule the exam(s) accordingly.
Instructors and students together should decide on appropriate dates and times for exams and complete the exam portion of the Student Academic Accommodation Request (SAAR) form accordingly. If you have not committed to dates for any of your exams, please mark TBA in the row and contact SDS one week in advance of a regular exam/quiz or three weeks in advance of a final exam to schedule the exam.
You may choose the exact date and times for the exams, making sure that this fits with the student’s class/work schedule. In this case, any changes to the dates and times noted on the SAAR form must be approved by you. Additionally, SDS must be notified as soon as possible before the exam can be administered.
Alternatively, you may specify an approved date range and allowable amount of time for each exam and allow SDS to work with the student to set the schedule.
SDS allows either time and a half or double time as an accommodation. In cases where you wish to allow the student more than double time, please arrange to accommodate the exam within the department.
Please indicate in the appropriate space on the SAAR form if any additional materials are allowed during the exam.
You may choose from several exam and delivery methods as outlined on the SAAR form. Please indicate your preference before signing the form. If you choose to arrange to have the exam physically delivered or collected from the SDS office, please note that office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00am – 12:00pm and 1:00pm – 5:00pm. The office is closed over the noon hour.
Deadlines for returning signed SAAR forms to the SDS office are the Wednesday of the week before the exam for non-final exams and the Wednesday three weeks before the exam for final exams.
If a student misses an exam, he or she will be advised to contact you and SDS must have your approval to reschedule the exam.
