Katrina Sanders came to Iowa as a postdoctoral fellow in 1997. As an Assistant Professor in the Social Foundations program, she teaches courses on the history of American education. She is currently writing a book, for which she received a research grant from the Spencer Foundation, on American race relations and education.

Prior to entering graduate school, she was a certified public school teacher in Louisiana.
She was named a Holmes Scholar at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1994. In 1997, she was named a Minority Faculty Fellow at Indiana University, Bloomington.
