the good people of Calontir, greetings and felicitations; more,
wishes that these letters find you and your kin in good health and
happy spirits.
Here in the shire of Shadowdale, we're looking forward to April. Not
just because of the sun and birdsong of Spring, but also because we
will be gathering to celebrate the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci. We
invite you to come and join us in a day of celebration.
A&S Activities Challenges
*Costume Accessory, ideally drawn from the fashions of the Italian
peninsula.
*A Siege Engine or other invention in the style of Leonardo, either
design plans or else a working model.
*Painting or Charcoal Drawing
Now the format for these challenges: we would like there to be a
populace bean count, to encourage all present to see the entries and
offer their support to their favorite in each field. We would also like all of the entrants to be able to gather, offer
criticism and advice to one another, and receive counsel from one or
two experts in the field. If that cricism and counsel end up helping
artisans towards greater success in Kingdom A&S, or towards greater
fellowship, we will have counted the challenges as successes.

Feast:
In the
spirit of Leonardo, we are preparing a feast of robust, Italian
specialties with a delicious, French finale. If you have any
questions please contact the feast steward. Out of courtesy to the cooks,
we ask that food restriction accommodations be requested before March
28th. Ingredients List
Antipasto, breads, olives, hard cooked eggs and fresh cheeses
1st Remove - Genoese style Trout and pizza
2nd Remove - Roast Beef Agliata, Peas, Elderflower Fritters
3rd Remove - Chicken Ambrogino with dried fruit, herbed riso and sauteed mushrooms
with spices
Finale - Apples and pears in syrup with crepes
Fee Information:
Site fee is Adults $5.00, Minors ages 5-17 $3.00, under 5 years free.
There is a $3.00 surcharge for non-members as per corpora. Feast fee:
$8.00. Make checks payable to "SCA, Inc. - Shire of Shadowdale”. Send
pre-registrations to the Exchequer. We strongly encourage feast
pre-registration; if done by March 21st, we will have a name plate for you
at the table and a commemorative book of our feast's recipes. Site is
discretely wet.
Directions:
Take your best route to Highway 218 in Iowa. Drive toward Iowa City, Iowa.
Take Exit 93 (Melrose Avenue) off of Hwy 218. From the North, take a right
turn, from the south, turn left. Proceed on Ivy Rd./Melrose Ave./County
Road -F46 W. heading away from Iowa City and continue for 7 miles. There
will be a sign for the Cosgrove Institute, take the left onto Cosgrove
Road SW. Drive approximately one mile and turn left onto 400th St. SW.
Cosgrove Institute is the brown brick building just past the large white
church on the corner.
