  • Procedure: Mouth swab, half hour counseling session, and mandatory follow-up appointment 7-10 days after test to discuss results

Reduce your risk

  • Discuss sexual history with your partner
  • Avoid contact with blood and body fluids
  • Get tested for sexually transmitted infections on a regular basis
  • Do not share hypodermic needles or other skin piercing objects
  • Avoid sexual contact with partners whose HIV risk you are unaware of
  • Practice safer sex by correctly and consistently using latex condoms and other protective barriers during anal sex, oral sex, sexual intercourse, or any sexual activity in which you could come in contact with semen, blood, or vaginal secretions
  • Limit your number of casual sex partners
  • Educate yourself on the transmission of HIV
  • Control your usage of alcohol and other drugs that are known to impair good judgement
