Tobacco Use

Ready to Quit Smoking or Chewing? SHS can help.

Student Health Service provides a tobacco cessation program FREE of charge for all registered University of Iowa students. We'll do whatever it takes to help you quit. We will tailor your individual tobacco cessation program to fit your needs and tobacco habits.

The initial consultation provides an opportunity for students to discuss their concerns with quitting, challenges they may be facing and options available to help them quit. Some of the cessation methods discussed include cold turkey, Chantix, Zyban, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) such as the patch, gum, lozenges, nasal spray and inhaler, postponing smoking time, and tapering. If you are interested in using Chantix or Zyban, you will need a prescription from a physician/physician's assistant at Student Health Service. We can assist you in scheduling that appointment, or you can call Student Health scheduling at 335-8394. Smokefree Iowa July 1

**Discounted NRT coupons available for students! Includes the following: Nicotine Patch, Gum and Lozenges. These OTC products, as well as Chantix and Zyban, are available at Westlawn Pharmacy, which is conveniently located in Student Health Service. Call 335-8394 to schedule a consultation and learn more about the NRT coupons.

After the initial consultation, continued support is available through individual consultations, email, phone calls, or letters. Follow-up support is tailored to the individual. To make an appointment for a tobacco cessation consultation, call Student Health Service at 335-8394.

**For a limited time, free nicotine patches/gum are available through Quitline Iowa.
