The University of Iowa Ski & Snowboard Club
The UISSC is a student run organization dedicated to bringing fun to the club members both in and out of the snow. Since we are in Iowa, there are not many opportunities to go skiing on a regular basis as opposed to other parts of the United States. As a result, we have numerous activities through the year, which allow club members to make new friends and meet new people.
We hold meetings three or four times a month depending on current events that allow the officers to relay information about trips and other activities to the members. Membership is $40 a year, which allows you access to club activities. We take two major trips each year in addition to a few local trips. In the past we have gone to places ranging from all around Colorado and Utah all the way up to Switzerland. Trip prices are generally around $300 to $500, but can be more depending on the location we go. Our trips are scheduled around the school year, with one during the winter semester break and another during spring break.
In addition to the major trips, ski club offers excellent opportunities for members to get together with other club members to take smaller, local trips. Sundown Mountain in Dubuque, Snow Star Mountain in Andalusia, and Chestnut Mountain in Galena are a few spots that can be reached in under two hours by car. We also have other non-snow related functions. Throughout the school year there are weekly meetings and socials, tailgate get-togethers, BBQ, broom ball outings, and movie premieres. The ski club is a great way of meeting new people and having fun while doing it. Skiing abilities range from never been skiing to jumping over roads and everywhere in between. Each trip there are at least five people who will be making it their first time skiing. They do fine and end up having a lot of fun.
