Institute for Inequality Studies
IIS Mission
The Institute for Inequality Studies (IIS) promotes research on the causes and consequences of the myriad forms of social inequality - class, gender, race/ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, religion, and disability. The mission of IIS includes stimulating interdisciplinary exchange, encouraging scholarly engagement in research through seminars that highlight the latest policy-relevant research and methodology, training the next generation of demography and inequality scholars, providing technical and administrative support to researchers working with survey or population data, and facilitating the development of collaborative proposals for external funding. IIS also promotes greater visibility for scholarship on social inequality through the periodic sponsorship of symposia focusing on important issues in inequality research that attract community interest.
