Jorge Chavez

I am originally from Perú; I joined the Sociology Graduate Program at The University of Iowa in the spring semester of 2006. My research interests are Organizations, Social Capital and Social Networks.

I received an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering and a master’s degree in Business administration from the National University of Trujillo-Perú. After graduating from the university I worked for six years at an international humanitarian organization named CARE that led me to realize the importance of social research as a fundamental instrument to empower societies, particularly in underdeveloped countries.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, especially Latin American literature, listening to music, playing tennis, and traveling.

I am so fortunate to have met very nice and receptive people in the Sociology Department and in the Iowa City community.
