I received my Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Western Michigan University in 2004, and completed my Masters in sociology from Western Michigan University in 2006. As an undergraduate, my research focused on gerontology, sociology of aging, and quantitative research methods. As a graduate student at WMU, I was able to explore the effects of humor use in social interactions, with particular emphasis on disparaging humor. My thesis consisted of two experimental studies designed to examine the relationship between exposure to sexist humor, individual levels of hostile sexism, and discriminatory behavior toward women.
I joined the Sociology Department at the University of Iowa in Fall, 2006, where I will continue to pursue my interests in social psychology, sociology of family, gender, quantitative and qualitative research methods. I am grateful for the opportunities to collaborate and learn from the fine graduate students and faculty in the Sociology Department here at Iowa.
When not busy with the rigors of graduate studies, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Greg, playing cards and board games, indulging our cats, and staying in touch with our family and friends.
