Research
Ongoing Projects:
- Research on attitudes towards multiracial people and interracial relationships (with Melissa Herman). Papers in this project include a paper on the best methods for measuring attitudes towards interracial relationships, a paper on attitudes towards interracial dating, cohabitation, marriage and childbearing, and a paper assessing attitudes towards multiracial individuals and political candidates. A related project with Molly Martin uses Census data to investigate the ways in which increasing immigration and diversity in our society have changed interracial marriage and cohabitation patterns.
- Research on racial inequality in educational achievement and attainment. These projects involve research on the educational outcomes of multiracial young adults, research on the effect of income inequality on racial gaps in test scores, and research testing competing explanations for racial achievement gaps in adolescence.
- Research on the impact of racial misclassification (when an individual's racial self-identification does not match how the individual is perceived by an observer).
- Research on racial inequality in the legal profession (with Emily Houh, Angela Onwuachi-Willig and Mary Noonan). Papers in this project include a survey of law students regarding the use of affirmative action in law school admissions and an analysis of racial disparities in being promoted to partner in a law firm.
- Research on racial inequality in health outcomes in hospitals (with Mary Sarrazin and Gary Rosenthal). Papers in this project include a study of the impact of racial segregation on the outcomes of procedures for acute myocardial infarction and a study of the measurement of racial segregation in hospitals.
