Rengin Firat

I am originally from Turkey, Istanbul; I received my BA degree in sociology from Koc University in Turkey in 2006, and received my master's degree in sociology here at the University of Iowa in May 2009.

My broad areas of interest are social psychology and social stratification.  My more specific research interests include morality, human values, the relationship between social structure and moral emotions, and social capital.  I am also interested in the neural correlates of moral emotions and seeking to combine brain imaging technology with quantitative and qualitative sociological methods.

I am currently working on multiple projects exploring moral emotions, and a project investigating the effects of voluntary organization diversity on tolerance.

When I am not involved with school work, I enjoy reading comic books, playing capoeira angola, walking in the trails, and having fun with my friends.
