Mary E. Campbell

Assistant Professor

Mary Campbell’s research focuses on two related themes: racial identification - or how racial categories are used in surveys and daily interactions - and racial inequality - or how race and ethnicity shape all aspects of American life. Examples of her work on racial identification include research into how different ways of measuring “race” on surveys lead to different conclusions about racial inequality and research into the mismatch between how people racially self-identify and how they are perceived by others.  Examples of her research on racial inequality include projects exploring health, educational and socioeconomic inequality in an increasingly diverse and multiracial context, as well as projects investigating racial prejudice and discrimination against multiracial individuals and interracial relationships.
