Before arriving at the University of Iowa I received a BA in History from the College of Charleston in 2003, and my juris doctor from Michigan State University College of Law in 2007. After working for a time, I decided to continue my education in sociology. My diverse experiences in the legal field, which ranged from working as a public defender to representing corporate clients in high stakes litigation, helped to shape the foundation of my interests within sociology. In addition, since arriving at Iowa, my interests have evolved as I have been introduced to aspects of sociological inquiry that were unknown to me just a short time ago. Broadly speaking, my interests include the sociology of law, economic sociology, organizations, networks, and crime.
I am currently working on my MA thesis, which centers on a network analysis of the lobbying community in Washington politics.
When not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my wife Jamie, and our wonderful boxer and two cats. I also enjoy biking, basketball, racquetball, and camping - basically anything that gives me an excuse to be outdoors.
