I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I received my BA in Sociology from Smith College, in Northampton, Massachusetts. At Smith my research interests focused on cultural studies, feminist theory, deconstruction, and social movements. My final research projects explored the ways in which representational practice and social discourse inform the construction and performance of identity. More specifically I focused on the limitations and opportunities that literary and blues texts provided for women to formulate a sense of identity and cultural visibility in the early part of the twentieth century. While I am still looking to pursue these areas of study, I also hope to explore the fields of criminology and stratification during my time at the University of Iowa.
During my time away from Seashore Hall I am usually riding my bike or fixing it, playing with my dog, or learning the banjo.
