Mark Walker
In spring of 2008, I received my B.S. in sociology and philosophy from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. During my undergraduate education, I had the opportunity to debate on the Weber State University Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl team; work as a supplemental instruction leader for Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Sociology, and Deductive Logic; and serve as the Community Service Vice President for the Weber State University Sociology Club. My research as an undergraduate focused on the function that role conflict plays in the process of disaffiliation from the Mormon Church.
My education became meaningful, however, when I took a year off from school from July 2006 to May 2007 in order to serve as a volunteer in AmeriCorps *NCCC. In AmeriCorps, I had the opportunity to do disaster relief for the Katrina affected areas in the Gulf Coast for most of my ten month term.
My research interests include social psychology, self/identity/role theory, and deviance and social control. I am also interested in exploring different methods and approaches to theory construction.
In my spare time I like to play pool in seedy bars, hike, wander around the country, see neat stuff, and wrestle with my dog.
