NURSING HOME SOCIAL WORKERS’ LISTSERV

This listserv provides an opportunity for nursing home social workers and social service staff to network, and discuss aspects and issues related to nursing home social work. This listserv is sponsored by the University of Iowa School of Social Work, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Mercedes Bern-Klug (mercedes-bern-klug@uiowa.edu), with assistance from social work students.

What is a listserv?
A listserv is an electronic mailing list. It can be thought of as a collection of people's names and e-mail addresses that want to discuss a topic of common interest. The list is managed by, a person called a list owner. The list owner defines the characteristics of the list, determines who can join, and oversees the list. People have an electronic discussion by sending e-mail to the list (also called postings or messages). The listserv distributes these messages to everyone on the list, as well as storing them in an archive for future reference. When someone replies to a posting the reply will go to the list for distribution to everyone, which will generate more replies thereby starting a discussion. The postings are sent to subscribers within in a few seconds or minutes depending on the speed of e-mail servers and other factors.

The goals and objectives of this listserv are to:
