Bushra Sabri

Bushra Sabri received her MSW from the University of Iowa, School of Social Work and MSW (Human Resource Management) from Aligarh University, India. Her professional experience includes work with adolescents and adults. Her program of research is on family and community violence, influence of parenting, stress and coping, co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders, cross-cultural research, racial/ethnic and gender disparities. Her teaching areas include research methods and statistics, cultural diversity, social welfare policy and administration, and international social work.

Amanda Reedy

Amanda Reedy

Amanda Reedy received her MSW from The University of Iowa School of Social Work. Her professional work involves evaluation and counseling with adults and adolescents who have substance use and mental health disorders. She has also worked with adults in correctional settings. Amanda’s research interests include substance use severity, the influence of family and peers on substance use, prenatal care, externalizing mental health disorders, and co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. She teaches research methods, advanced research methods, and a computer lab for MSW students. Her other areas of teaching include co-occurring disorders; veterans; social work practice with individuals, families, and groups; and substance use disorder evaluation and diagnosis.

Elizabeth Mendez-Shannon

Elizabeth Mendez-Shannon

Elizabeth Mendez-Shannon received her MSW from Hunter College School of Social Work. She has over 10 years of post graduate social work experience working with children and families in areas of child welfare, domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse and homelessness. During the 9/11 disaster, she was a team leader for New York City’s mobile crisis team providing brief counseling and crisis interventions to individuals and communities. In addition to her professional social work experience, Elizabeth has been active in community organization. She developed programs that directly impacted families with terminal diseases providing them with supportive services and long term planning. She also has extensive experience in community advocacy particularly with immigrant families who are undocumented. Her research interests include resiliency among the Latino immigrant community, asset mapping with rural Latinos, transnational identity, stress and resilience among rural older women, poverty, social justice, and community practice. She has taught graduate courses such as Diversity, Oppression and Discrimination; Family Centered Theory and Practice II and Organizational Context for Professional Practice. Elizabeth also taught and developed the curriculum for a specialized course called Spanish for Social Workers.
