The University of Iowa, School of Social Work launched the BA in Social Work program in Des Moines Fall 2010. Fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, the program is administered by the School of Social Work in cooperation with the Division of Continuing Education Center for Credit Programs.

The program is designed for students who have earned their AA or AS degree, or are transferring with two years of completed undergraduate coursework. Full-time students take an average of two social work courses each semester and enroll in at least six hours of upper-division courses offered by the UI, including summer.

All social work courses are taught in the classrooms at the John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center in Des Moines. Other requirements are offered online or through a combination of classroom and online methods. Students do not need to travel to Iowa City for any courses, though it is an option for those interested.

Applications are due March 1. To be eligible for admission, students must earn a C or better in SSW:2222 Introduction to Social Work offered, or a transfer equivalent course, and have a minimum GPA of 2.50 (on a 4.0 scale).
