I work in the area of child welfare with a special focus on organizations and family-centered practice. My research aim is to understand how organizational and environmental factors affect child welfare practitioners' commitment and ability to provide services that strengthen families and reduce reliance on out-of-home placement. Supervision is a key factor, and I have received two federal grants for intervention research on child welfare supervision. At the SSW I direct the National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice and I am the Principal Investigator for the new U.S. Children's Bureau funded National Resource Center for In-Home Services. I am also a partner with the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute.
