Quad Cities Part-Time Program

Greetings from the Quad Cities! The School of Social Work has been proud to offer the MSW in this region for 40 years. Since 1988, we have offered a part-time program which is currently structured such that a cohort of students is admitted once every three years. A new cohort began their studies in summer 07, so applications to the program are not being accepted at this time.

Anyone interested in learning more about the program may attend an MSW Program Information session conducted by UI School of Social Work faculty, Bob Jackson and Mary Newcomb. For details contact Mary Newcomb, mary-newcomb@uiowa.edu 309-794-7619.

Students can complete the entire program in the Quad Cities Graduate Study Center (QCGC) located in Sorenson Hall, Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. Students register for an average of two courses each semester, including summers, and complete the degree in three years. Details about the curriculum are available here. Scheduling is structured to assist working students to complete the program. For example, most courses are offered after 4:30 p.m. or through intensive formats.

Committed to preparing practitioners with a commitment to social justice and social change, the School is eager to attract students from diverse backgrounds and those who are interested in cross cultural perspectives.

If you'd like more information about the program, or have specific questions, call Kate Kemp, Program Administrator, 319-335-1254, or Bob Jackson, Distance Education Coordinator 319-335-1331 or call the Quad Cities office at 309-794-7619 and leave a message.

The Quad Cities has an extensive social work community which is supportive of the School and that provides a sizable pool of social workers who can serve as practicum and course instructors. A Professional Advisory Group also exits in the Quad Cities. This group of community practitioners meets with the Director of the School, the Distance Education Coordinator, the Practicum Administrator and Program Administrator to offer feedback about program operations and curriculum and is kept informed about larger issues of the School.

Some elective courses, offered throughout the three years, are open to non-degree seeking students who have already earned bachelor's degrees. Contact the School for more information about these opportunities.
