International Horn Society 41th annual Symposium at Western Illinois University - June 2-7, 2009
Iowa Summer Music Camp - for high school players at the School of Music of The University of Iowa every June!
Horn Week at the Shell Lake Arts Center - The horn workshop at the Arts Center in beautiful Shell Lake, Wisconsin is for interested horn players of all ages: masterclasses, private lessons, discussions, recitals, horn ensemble, natural horn, how-to sessions on practicing, warm-ups, problem solving, horn information resources, interpretation, technique, repertoire, and more.
The 2009 session will be led by Prof. Lin Foulk of Western Michigan University (Jeffrey Agrell will be leading a week on Improvisation for Classical Musicians during this same week at Shell Lake; he'll return to lead the Horn Week in 2010).
[Full disclosure: Jeffrey Agrell has been on the faculty of the KBHC since 2005]. The KBHC consists of three one-week sessions in June (June 6-29, 2008) completely devoted to the horn, located at the rustic camp Ogontz in the White Mountains of New Hampshire – no distractions (e.g. no internet, newspapers, radio, TV, email). Just 40-some enthusiastic horn ‘campers’ (ages 15 to 80, high school, college, adult amateur, pros) and a baker's dozen of nationally and internationally known horn faculty such as Kendall Betts, Bernard Scully, Jesse McCormick, Jeffrey Agrell, Hermann Baumann, Lin Foulk, Randy Gardner, Lowell Greer, Michael Hatfield, Douglas Hill, Abby Mayer, Dick Mackey, Ted Thayer, Kevin Welch, Ellen Dinwiddie Smith). Approximate schedule: Mornings: 3 hours of master classes, afternoon: private lessons, ensemble rehearsals, mock auditions; evening: concerts, presentations, recitals. A unique and unforgettable experience – highly recommended! $1230 per week including tuition, room and board. Scholarships available – apply by March. Author of I Found My Horn Jasper Rees has written about his experiences at KBHC here.
