Welcome to Fall 2009 - orientation information
Placement & diagnostic exams, Cambus schedule, practice room locations & hours, map, music library, and more.

Seminar will be Wednesdays 11:30-12:20 in Room 1675 in the UCC.
The second and third seminars will be at different times and places: Sept. 2 and Sept. 9 will be 7:30-9:30 (approx.) in the Choral Room (Clinton St Music 150). I want to spend some time on technique to get us all off to a good start.

Requirements for fall:
• Have a BERP (see under
Accessories to order)

•Some kind of device to record yourself (suggestions in
Recording)

Order three spiral-bound collections of arrangements for horn and piano from Last Resort Music -
1) 18 Sacred & Spiritual Solos
2) 20 Encore and Recital Pieces
3) 18 Traditional Christmas Solos

The pieces are all fairly short, not too difficult (nearly sight-reading material), have attractive/well-known melodies, and avoid extremes of register; ditto the piano parts.
These volumes are highly useful for getting a lot of performing (churches, weddings, nursing homes, hospitals, schools, etc etc). You will be expected to perform a minimum of three of these per semester, one in seminar, two outside of school. They are an easy way to acquire performing experience.

•You will be required to buy, read and report on one or both of these books (exact assignments via email):
-Talent is Overrated, by Geoff Colvin
-The Talent Code by Daniel Coyle
Order through Amazon.com or other bookstore.
