Adriana Méndez-Rodenas

Adriana Méndez Rodenas is a professor in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at the University of Iowa.  Her areas of expertise are nineteenth and twentieth century Latin American narrative. She has published amply in the area of Caribbean literature and culture, including a recent edition of Mercedes Santa Cruz y Montalvo’s  Viaje a la Habana.  Her research and teaching interests include travel writing, transatlantic studies, and Cuban American literature.  Her current research project centers on European women’s travels to 19th century Latin America. As Distinguished Chair in American Studies at Uppsala University in Sweden, she researched the American travelogues of Swedish novelist Fredrika Bremer.
