Upcoming Events, Spring 2004

April 27: Diversity panel sponsored by SPJ, NABJ and PRSSA. Come to 101 Biology Building East (BBE) at 7 pm to hear keynote speaker Ernest Sotomayor (UNITY president, Newsday) and local journalism professionals and educators discuss the state of diversity in the newsroom today. Guests include Renee Chou (KCRG TV-9 reporter and anchor), Paul Anger (Des Moines Register editor), Pam Creedon (J-MC School director), David Stoeffer (VP of Lee Enterprises) and Leo Eko (J-MC School assistant professor in ethics).

May 4: End-of-the-year party, 6 pm, W411 Seashore Hall.

Past Meetings, Spring 2004

January 27: Meeting 6 pm, W411 Seashore Hall. KRUI sponsored a workshop on broadcasting.

February 10: Meeting, 5 pm, W411 Seashore Hall. Chris Snider, the art director from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, spoke about art and designing pages.

February 24: Meeting, 6 pm, W411 Seashore Hall. Kate Corcoran, the internship coordinator for the School of Journalism, spoke on summer internships and good résumés.

March 9: Meeting, 5 pm, W411 Seashore Hall. Professionals from print and broadcast media interviewed with members and gave individual advice on résumés and job procurement.

March 26-28: Regional conference in Kansas City, Kansas.

March 30: "You Be the Editor" panel sponsored by SPJ in the Legal and Ethical Foundations of Communication class. 10:55-12:10, Lecture Room 2, Van Allen Hall.

March 30: Meeting, 5 pm, W411 Seashore Hall. Scott Glover and Matt Lait, an investigative reporting team from the Los Angeles Times, were the guest speakers.

April 6: Meeting, 6 pm, W411 Seashore Hall. Planned for diversity panel.

April 20: Meeting, 5 pm, W411 Seashore Hall. Chris Kelley, the online editor for the Dallas Morning News, spoke. Elections for the 2004-2005 school year were held.
