1.   The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m.

2.   Review/approval of minutes.

a.   12/13/00 Staff Council meeting minutes approved.

b.   Reviewed minutes from 12/19/00 Executive Committee meeting.

3.   Comments – AVP Foldesi.

a.   The Board of Regents January meeting will be held via teleconferencing next week.

b.   Human Resources has launched a self-serve web site for UI employees to securely access their records from payroll, flex benefits, and vacation & sick leave accrual.  The resource has received positive feedback.  The next issue of FYI will include an informative article about the new site.

c.   Sue Buckley reported on the conflict of interest in employment policy and distributed a memo, which outlines the policy and a number of procedural improvements that the committee has made over the past year.  Please see memo for further details.

4.   Announcements.

a.   Mary Curtis, from Women’s Athletics, encouraged staff councilors to attend the upcoming Christine Grant Day event on Sunday, January 21, 2001.  Ticket orders should be placed by January 11, 2001.

5.   Item from Previous Agendas.

a.   Smoking Policy.  Council discussed staff concerns regarding on-campus smoking policies.

6.   Committee Reports.

a.   Executive Committee.  Nancy Noyer of WorkLife is coordinating Staff Celebration Day with the assistance of Staff Council’s Executive Committee.  The event will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in the IMU.  Some consideration is being given to hosting a blood drive during Staff Celebration Day.

b.   Governmental Relations Committee.  Pat Kenner distributed Legislative Guides, which were published by the Cedar Rapids Gazette.  The guides provide information about Iowa State legislators currently in office.

c.   Elections Committee. The committee has begun the soliciting nominations for this year’s Staff Council election. An article will appear in FYI, and nomination forms will be mailed to Staff Council constituents in the next week.

7.   New Items.

a.   Staff Council Executive and UIHC Ad hoc Committees met with AVP Foldesi, John Staley, Linda Everett and Diana Leventry to discuss hospital issues and negative press.

b.   Anne Tanner announced that University Communications & Outreach has put together a new web site database, which allow to one to search and obtain a listing of UI resources available across the state of Iowa.  The database contains more than 370 listings of services offered to Iowans.  Please visit the site at http://itsnt12.its.uiowa.edu/iaoutreach/
