1.        The meeting was called to order at 2:35 p.m.

2.        Review/approval of minutes.

  1. 5/9/01 Staff Council meeting minutes approved.
  2. Reviewed minutes from 5/14/01  Executive Committee meeting.
  3. Reviewed minutes from 5/30/01 Executive Committee meeting with President Coleman.

3.        Comments – AVP Foldesi.

  1. The Board of Regent’s discussed the discontinuance of the Early Retirement Program this week. RISCAC and ISU both spoke for the continuation of the program. The BOR will move into action on this issue in July.
  2. No news on the salary policy as of yet. The Governor has signed the salary bill and it has passed through the BOR to the UI. The UI is currently reviewing it. Information will be provided to UI employees soon.
  3. The UI SMART suggestion program is underway. They have received a 100+ suggestions.

4.        Resolution regarding the Early Retirement Program. Councilors discussed the Early Retirement Program and voted to submit a resolution to the BOR. The resolution would express the UI Staff Council’s belief that some sort of Early Retirement Program should be available to UI employees. Dave Fitzgerald and Feather Lacy will draft the resolution. The resolution will be submitted to the BOR before their July meeting.

5.        Conflict Resolution—Sue Buckley. Four documents on conflict resolution/grievance policy will be sent to Staff Councilors next week for their review. They will include: a) a global statement on conflict resolution, b) a statement on ethics and responsibility, c) a revision of current P&S grievance procedure, d) a statement on the process for administrative review of workplace conflict.

6.        Reports

a.         Bylaws. Cathy Colony Bunnell read the proposed changes to the bylaws regarding membership in the Governmental Relations Committee. No comments were made. It was approved that Council would vote on the changes in the July meeting.

b.        CIC Report. Pat Arkema and Pat Kenner recently met with Councils from other Big Ten Universities. They were not able to discuss issues in detail and are hoping to have similar meetings in the future (1-2/years).

c.         Staff Excellence Awards. Anne Tanner announced that the following Staff Members have been awarded the Staff Excellence Awards:

d.        Staff Celebration Day. Nancy Noyer will be meeting with the Executive Committee this month to discuss the most recent Staff Celebration Day and seek suggestions for next year’s event.

e.        Budget Committee. The committee is meeting tomorrow and will be reviewing the Coca-Cola fund allocations.

f.          News & Views. The summer issue is nearly completed. It will be mailed to staff in July.

g.        Announcements. 

·              Staff Councilor Office Manager, Kristin Baum, will be leaving her position to take a new position with UI Libraries Book Conservation Department.

·              A cookie and punch reception will follow the meeting to send off both AVP Foldesi and Kristin.
