Email from Mary Greer to Staff Councilors, November 25, 2006:
Hi everyone,
On Thanksgiving morning, Governor Tom Vilsack called me on my cell phone and invited me to a meeting he was organizing in Cedar Rapids on Monday. It was the governor calling, not his assistant :). Fortunately, Shelly Kurtz, the faculty senate president had called me 25 minutes earlier to let me know it was coming….he didn’t want me to think this was a prank (I have 5 older brothers, any of whom love to play jokes on me, so I was very, very grateful for Shelly’s call).
Shelly is also to be credited for getting me to the meeting. When the governor called him, he said he’d agree to meet only if Staff Council and Student Government leadership were there as well. This points to the great relationship we enjoy with faculty and students and it serves us extremely well to always go as a united front. The timing of this meeting is excellent, given the discussion of no confidence votes scheduled for Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. in the Senate Chambers of Old Capitol. Again, I so hope you can attend.
I didn’t think it appropriate to tell anyone about this meeting, but then I see that the governor has issued a press release about it. He indicates that he will make public comments following the meeting. I will let you know how things went as well. The meeting is at 5 p.m. in Cedar Rapids on Monday. Be sure to contact me via email or cell phone if there is anything in particular you want me to know before the meeting. My cell is 319-400-2509. I am currently in Buffalo, NY and headed back to Iowa this weekend, but the Staff Council Treo downloads my email throughout my trip and my cell phone is always on.
Hope everyone had a great holiday.
Mary
