Colleagues:
I continue to receive many inquiries daily about what has transpired
and what faculty can expect with respect to the governance issue and
the presidential search.
In an effort to keep faculty better informed, we have reorganized the
Faculty Senate News web page http://www.uiowa.edu/~facsen/news.htm.
It
includes sections on the presidential search and the strategic change
process. Each of these has subsections
with "official documents," newspaper editorials, guest columns,
and
letters to the editor.
The web page also includes a "News of the Day" entry at the
very top
of the page. I may not be able to update this entry every day.
There has been very substantial public interest in these matters. The
web site contains entries (and in most cases links) to 32 newspaper
editorials and columns, 23 guest opinions, 480 newspaper stories,
and 21 letters to the editor on the presidential search. There are an
additional 40 entries on the strategic change process.
As you can observe from the editorials, there is broad understanding
and even sympathy with the concerns of UI faculty, staff and students.
We have also received the formal support of the ISU Faculty Senate for
the resolutions we have presented to the Regents regarding the
strategic change process.
