The following staff members are running for Staff Council in the Merit Supervisory Exempt category:
Kimberly Hammen - I began working at the University of Iowa College of Nursing in May of 1998. I started as a Secretary II in the Office of the Dean and worked as a secretary/receptionist for two years and then applied for a Secretary III position that opened up in our office. I have been the Dean’s secretary since 2000. I have thoroughly enjoyed both of my positions here at the University of Iowa College of Nursing and feel that communication is the key to everything we do. The interaction I have with faculty, staff, students and the public has helped to prepare me to be a representative on Staff Council. I also have a strong record of service of which includes volunteering for Children’s Miracle Network, Secretary to the Gamma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau and as our Wellness Ambassador. I would welcome the opportunity to serve as your representative.
Barb Jaeger - I have worked for Internal Medicine-Human Resources for the past 8 years. I have gained substantial knowledge of the University’s Policies & Procedures by my interactions with the Hospital Payroll Office/University Payroll Office/University Benefits and the University Human Resources. I work closely with Foreign Nationals, Faculty, University Immigrations Office and Office Of International Students & Scholars in the preparation/processing of visas. I feel the knowledge I have gained over the past 8 years would be very beneficial to the Staff Council.
Kathy Last - Kathy Last is a Secretary II-Confidential in the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity. Kathy has worked on the Oakdale Campus, Facilities Services, and the College of Business for 17 ½ years. After one year at ACT, Kathy Last returned to the University in June of 2005.
My current position as a “confidential” employee makes me eligible for a position on Staff Council. I feel strongly that the confidential constituency should be represented in the MSE/C group, and I would be honored to represent you. I bring to Staff Council an eagerness to become involved and to be “your voice”. I have investigated Staff Council and its mission/vision and look forward to bringing your ideas forward to Council.
Kathy and Mike reside in West Liberty, with their sons Aaron,(sophomore) and Hunter (5th grade), who attend Regina Catholic School in Iowa City. Mike is a microbiologist for UI Hygienic Laboratory.
Heather Schnoebelen - I have worked at the University for 12 years, currently in the Admission Visitors Center as an Office Coordinator. My duties include human resources, facilities coordinator, and special projects. My education and interests are in human resources management.
I am completing my first term on Staff Council, it has been a rewarding experience, I have enjoyed being active on several committees. I have been involved with the Merit Supervisory/Exempt committee where I have served as chair for the past two years, Goals committee, Governmental Relations committee, 40th Year Celebration committee and also served as the Staff Council representative on the Working @Iowa Survey committee. I also participate in the Regents wide RISCAC committee. Last fall I represented the University of Iowa Staff Council at the CIC APSC (Big 10 mtg).
Serving on Staff Council has been rewarding and I hope to continue representing the issues of MSE/C employees.
Julie Sexton - I currently serve on Staff Council and would welcome the opportunity to serve as your representative for another term. During my first term, I have had the privilege of participating on the Diversity, Staff Awards Selection, Education, and Merit Supervisory Exempt/Confidential committees. In the summer of 2006, I was elected to chair the Regents Interinstitutional Supervisory and Confidential Advisory Council (RISCAC) that represents all MSE/C staff from the five regent institutions. Our mission as elected MSE/C representatives is to review policies and practice relative to our job classifications and ensure inclusion of MSE/C staff on all recommendations from Staff Council where it is equitable while keeping our constituents informed. I am a Secretary IV in the Department of Neurology at UIHC working in the area of human resources and departmental administration. I look forward to continuing to work towards keeping the UI a remarkable place to work.
Christine Tade - I have worked on and off at the university since 1976, as well as attending graduate school here; I have been an employee of the Libraries since 1985; I have served on a number of committees and task forces within the Libraries, including the Executive Council, the Personnel and Diversity Committee, and the task force which produced the Libraries' self-study report in 2006. In the last two years I have also completed the university's Management Series and Professional Development Internship Program. Among other issues, I am concerned about the university's presidential search process, the integration of the Libraries' services into university endeavors such as the curriculum and an institutional repository, and the roles and status of supervisory/merit exempt staff.
Ruthina West – I am seeking election to the Staff Council because I have a growing interest in the Diversity efforts of the University. I have recently joined the Diversity Committee for UIHC/COM but would like to have a bigger impact on the university as a whole. I am also interested in working more on peer support throughout the university and developing new policies to ensure that diversity and peer support remain a focus of the university leadership.
