Tandem Stories Quest

The TSQ outreach program was established by Steve Thunder-McGuire and The University of Iowa Art Education Program. Tandem Stories Quest is an art and outdoor adventure program in Iowa that brings diverse groups of people together---with a special emphasis on persons with disabilities---to enjoy cycling set side by side with visual and literary storytelling. Our goal is to provide youth opportunities to experience and reflect upon the tremendous roll of the earth by human power. Designing Human Powered Vehicles Workshop.

With Tandem Partners Workshop, we pair differently-abled riders as tandem partners, understanding that outdoor adventures often happen best when two people set side by side their stories of the day's events accomplished together. While participation in art and outdoor adventure is vital to human development, quality community based programs are rarely set up so that individuals of all abilities participate together and erase barriers through participation. For this reason, Tandem Stories Quest seeks to involve and include youth of all abilities in all of its programs in a safe atmosphere of learning underpinned by reflection through storytelling. We also have ways for undergraduates to get involved in extended practicum experiences, as well as some exciting opportunities for community service organizations.
