United Campus Ministry Student Peer Ministers
A Christian
Leadership Development Project
The purpose of the Student
Peer Minister Project is three fold:
- to assist Christian students with leadership potential
to develop leadership skills consistent with Christian faith and values.
- to provide a community of support for personal and
spiritual growth and the practice of Christian spiritual disciplines.
- to help Christian students to identify and provide
support for intentional work on a “mission project” on campus, in a local
congregation, or in the community.
Personal Qualifications:
- A
clear commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and willingness to
explore more deeply what that means
- Some
knowledge and experience in and with the church
- Dependability,
the ability to manage time so as to keep commitments
- A
desire for personal, spiritual, emotional, intellectual and interpersonal
growth
- Ability
to work with others, to accept suggestions and to work collaboratively
- A
genuine concern for others and their welfare
Requirements:
- Attend
group Peer Minister meeting and meet with Director of Campus Ministry on a
regular basis (usually weekly) as a top priority
- Keep a
personal journal, including reflections on readings, Bible study notes; and
personal/spiritual reflections on your faith journey
- Choose
a Peer Ministry project which supports small group development in an area
such as Bible study, prayer, book study, introduction to Christianity,
peace and justice issues, retreat-planning, service-oriented work groups,
outreach groups through music, art and/or theater or another topic that
you may have in mind and devote some regular time to it each week
- Contribute
to office management and UCM activities as needed
- Commit
approximately six hours per week to peer ministry work
Stipend: $600
per semester
