The University Counseling Service (UCS) has a variety of self-help materials to assist students as they improve their academic skills, explore career directions, and improve their personal functioning. Students are encouraged to use one or more of the following aids-available at the UCS, 3223 Westlawn, for free or at minimal cost, as indicated..

This resource provides listings and links to a variety of informational and self-help resources available on the world wide web.

Self-Help and Informational Handouts

Explore a variety of handouts that provide information about coping with specific psychological issues such as eating disorders, depression, time management, grief and loss, stress, and assertiveness.

An Annotated Bibliography of Self-Help Books

Discover new avenues for personal understanding and growth from books recommended by UCS staff psychologists. From anxiety management to self-esteem, over 100 books are described to help you obtain new skills, learn about yourself, and gain insight into the people around you. Available free.

Study Skills: Learning More; Learning Better

UCS staff have put together a sampling of handouts to help you improve your academic skills. Topics include: Stress and Time Management, Getting More from Lectures and Discussions, Suggestions for Writing Papers, Effective Reading and Studying, Strategies for Taking Tests. Cost is $2.
