To increase awareness of safe listening habits among the general public.
What We Do
We are a University of Iowa student organization that supports the efforts of UISAFE (University of Iowa – Sound Awareness For Everyone), a group of clinical and research audiologists interested in hearing conservation. Hearing conservation practices are meant to prevent noise-induced hearing loss. In addition to increasing awareness of safe listening habits, UISAFE also educates musicians about their unique acoustical environments, how those environments affect their hearing, and the musician-specific hearing loss prevention and intervention options available to them.
For more information about the UISAFE organization, visit the website: http://www.uiowa.edu/~ui-safe/
If you are a student at the University of Iowa interested in audiology, hearing loss prevention, or just interested in serving the community, consider joining us.
Opportunities for community outreach include:
- Presentations to musicians
- Presentations to elementary school students
- Exhibits at the Iowa State Fair and the Johnson County Fair
- Participation in the University of Iowa homecoming parade
Biweekly meetings are held at noon at the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Clinic. Interested students are welcome to attend, but you do not have to attend meetings to get involved.
