CLRI Legislative Database Now Open
Posted Friday, October 24, 2003
The University of Iowa Center for Human Rights (UICHR) is pleased to announce the opening of its Child Labor Research Initiative (CLRI) Legislative Database. Under contract with the US Department of Labor, the UICHR is compiling national legislation related to child labor from 25 countries. Building an internet database of child labor legislation is a critical step in the worldwide effort to combat child labor. The goal of the database is to be a useful research tool for policy-makers, scholars, and activists. The laws are searchable by country or by category and are available in English and the original language.
At present, the database contains the complete texts of the child labor laws of ten countries: Cambodia, Ghana, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Philippines, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the United States. Completed countries will be added throughout the year. By September 2004, the database will contain the child labor laws of 15 additional countries, including: Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, France, Gambia, Nepal, Paraguay, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.
