American Self-Portrait
An artist named Chris Jordan created compilations of various objects we use in our everyday society. For example, Americans consume, "2 million plastic beverage bottles every 5 minutes" (Jordan). These statistics are often hard to connect to reality, so Jordan created several visual pieces to help establish this connection.

Habitat for Humanity's Re-store
Habitat Re-Stores are retail outlets where quality used and surplus building materials are sold at a fraction of normal prices. Proceeds from Re-Store outlets help local affiliates fund construction of Habitat houses within the community. Many affiliates across the United States and Canada operate successful ReStores -- some of which raise enough funds to build an additional 10 or more houses per year. Materials sold by Habitat Re-Stores are usually donated from building supply stores, contractors, demolition crews or from individuals who wish to show their support for Habitat for Humanity. In addition to raising funds, Re-Stores help the environment by rechannelling good, usable materials into use. Click the above link to see Re-Stores located in Iowa! Donate your goods or visit a location to purchase materials!

Localfoods Connection
Local Foods Connection purchases produce, bread, eggs, meat and other products from local earth-friendly farms and donates these goods to families who cannot afford such nutritious, tasty and fresh food. LFC provides opportunities for families to visit a farm and to learn healthy cooking methods. With support from local businesses and individuals, LFC assists families in need of a helping hand, strengthens the local foods network and empowers the farmers who live and work just outside of our Iowa City neighborhoods.
