The University of Iowa Fencing Club Constitution

ARTICLE I. RAISON D'ETRE

The University of Iowa Fencing Club (hereafter referred to as the UIFC) exists to promote the sport of fencing.

ARTICLE II. MEMBERSHIP AND OFFICERS

Section i.

In no aspect of the UIFC's programs shall there be any difference in the treatment of persons because of race, national origin, color, creed, religion, sex, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or associational preference, or any other classification which would deprive the person of consideration as an individual. The UIFC will guarantee that equal opportunity and equal access to membership, programming, facilities, and benefits shall be open to all persons.

Section ii.

A member may be removed for gross violation of the safety rules or etiquette of fencing.

Section iii.

The President shall be responsible for arranging the time and location of business and practice meetings; he/she shall also be responsible for the key to the equipment room.

Section iv.

The Vice President shall assist the President and assume his/her duties in his/her absence.

Section v.

The Secretary shall be responsible for any such records, membership lists, and correspondence as may be necessary for the operation of the UIFC.

Section vi.

The Treasurer shall be responsible for collecting club dues and fees, maintaining the clubs accounts, budget, and all other monetary affairs of the UIFC.

Section vii.

Officers shall be elected during the Fall semester of the school year from the membership of the UIFC and shall serve terms of one year. An officer may succeed him/herself. All officers must be registered students at the University of Iowa.

Section viii.

Officers may be impeached on the grounds of gross incompetence or mishandling of UIFC funds. No officer may vote on the issue of his/her impeachment.

Section ix.

With the approval of a majority of the membership of the UIFC, the president may appoint any additional officers needed for the efficient functioning of the UIFC.

ARTICLE III. ADVISOR

Section i.

The advisor is chosen by the membership at the time needed, term indefinite. He/she shall facilitate interaction between the UIFC and other branches of the University.

ARTICLE IV. MEETINGS

Section i.

Business meetings shall be conducted before or after practice sessions or at any other time deemed necessary by the President; They shall be chaired by the President, who may vote on any issue save his/her own impeachment. Any questions receiving a tie vote fail.

Section ii.

A quorum shall consist of more than one third of the membership. At least on weeks notice must be provided prior to a meeting during which changes of dues, expenditures of greater than $50.00, election of officers, impeachment of officers, removal of members, or amendments to this constitution are to be voted upon. Meetings shall be conducted according to Robert's Rules of Order.

ARTICLE V. FINANCES

Section i.

The membership of the UIFC may establish membership dues.

Section ii.

The officers may spend up to $50.00 of UIFC funds without prior approval from the membership; they shall, however be held accountable for such expenditures.

Section iii.

Upon dissolution state money and mandatory student fees revert back to the granting organization.

Group fees should be divided as stated in the constitution and carried out by the dissolving group's members and officers.

If a group has dissolved and group fees have not been divided as stated in constitution by 5 years from last account activity monies in a group's 00 account will revert to an account specified for this purpose within UISG. These funds will then be available for distribution through SABAC guidelines in compliance with University of Iowa Policy.

ARTICLE VI. BY-LAWS AND AMENDMENTS

Section i.

The UIFC may establish by-laws when necessary.

Section ii.

This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority of the total membership of the UIFC.
