2011 Iowa Liszt Festival Held
The Iowa chapter of the American Liszt Society and the UI School of Music will hosted the 2011 Iowa Liszt Festival, April 21-23, in Iowa City. During this festival the entire Iowa music community will celebrated the life and music of Franz Liszt, a legendary piano virtouso, composer, teacher, and musical authority of the Romantic Era. Internationally-recognized artists and scholars, such as Dr. Alan Walker, Dr. Thomas Mastroianni, and Dr. Michael Gurt, joined the UI piano and organ faculty members and students in a series of concerts, lectures, and master classes dedicated to different aspects of Liszt's genius.
The UI Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dr. William LaRue Jones presented a concert featuring symphonic works of Liszt, including two works for Piano and Orchestra (Totentanz and Fantasy on a Motive from Beethoven’s Ruins of Athens) with Ksenia Nosikova as the soloist on Thursday, April 21, 2011.
