Piano Sundays at Old Capitol
Piano Sundays at Old Capitol, the Iowa City-area community series of piano recitals, was created in 2007 by the University of Iowa School of Music, the Old Capitol Museum, and West Music Company. All of the concerts take place in the historical Senate Chamber of the Old Capitol Museum and showcase the remarkable talent that comes from the University's School of Music. Piano Sundays provide a unique, less formal atmosphere, allowing the performers to connect with the audience and talk about the pieces as they cannot in other venues. The concerts have been a great addition to the quality programming in the arts and humanities offered by the Old Capitol Museum. Dr. Ksenia Nosikova, a member of the piano faculty at the University of Iowa School of Music, serves as an Artistic Director of the series.
West Music in Coralville restored Old Capitol's 1878 Steinway, which features burled-rosewood carved legs and satin finish. The piano was acquired in January 2007 with assistance from West Music Company. In addition to this gift-in-kind donation, Stephen L. West, president of West Music Company, has been providing the funding for the "Piano Sundays" concert series.
Hope to see you there!
