Groups meet monthly in members’ homes to discuss a variety of books from current bestsellers to the classics.

Meets monthly throughout the year, 4th Friday 9:30-10:30am (no food) to visit, share ideas, discuss issues, or just relax.

 

DAY TRIP CULTURE GROUP

Trip coordinator:  Ann Crowley

Meets monthly, usually on the first Wednesday, to explore cultural, educational or historical places in the surrounding area.  Lunch is usually included in our plans.  Participants may attend as many or as few trips as desired; however, certain facilities have a maximum number of participants for their tours.  Register early to avoid disappointment. This is a carpooling group.

Exploring the Vegetarian Lifestyle

Chairperson:  Carol Throckmorton

This group provides the opportunity for learning why and how people choose a vegetarian lifestyle and explores the world of delicious vegetarian fool.  The group meets for dining out adventures, potlucks and recipe sharing.

 Golf

Golf is scheduled on Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. at Finkbine Golf Course.

 

Gourmet Evening

    Chairperson:  Lois Crowley

Evening Gourmet is for members (with or without a spouse or guest) who enjoy cooking, trying new recipes, and socializing with friends both old and new.  The hostess of each dinner chooses the menu, prepares the main course, and provides recipes for 6 to 8 guests.  There will be four dinners throughout the year, taking place on the second Saturday evening of November, January, February, and April.

This group is lots of fun, and a great way to meet new people and socialize with others with similar interests.  It’s also a terrific way to discover new foods and ways of preparing them.  Please join us!

 

INVESTING FOR WOMEN (UCWIN)

Meets monthly on the 3rd Tuesday, 9:15-11:30am, in the conference room of the Extension Office at the Johnson County Fairgrounds.  For information on the procedure for visiting a meeting or requirements for being accepted as a partner in the group, contact President Nancy Ross or Vice-President Gerry Tetrault.

KNITTING

Meets monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 1:00pm-3:00pm.  All skill levels, including beginners, are welcome.  Locations will vary.

Mah Jongg

Meets:  1st meeting Thursday, Aug, 6 at 1:00

NEWCOMERS’

Meets monthly on the 3rd Thursday at 9:30am at a member’s home.  The great variety of programs planned   will provide an ideal opportunity to become acquainted with each other, the community, and campus.



PIANO

Meets monthly on the 1st Tuesday at  1:00 p.m. to enjoy performing for each other.  All skill levels including beginners are welcome. No meeting in January.  The May meeting includes a luncheon and begins at 11:00 a.m.

 

READERS' THEATER

Chairpersons:  Judy Terry, Jan Johnston

Meets monthly on the 1st Friday at 1pm.  At each meeting, a member volunteers to find a play and secure a cast of readers.  These persons then read the play for the group.  Location is decided by the hostess each month.

 

RED SHOES

Chairpersons:  Cedra Williamson, Cathy Schiele

New to The University Club? Long-time resident of Iowa City? Don your Red Shoes and join a group of fun-loving ladies who meet new friends each month.  Meets 4th Tuesday, various times and locations

 

SCRABBLE

Chairperson:  Diane Schweer

This group gives Scrabble players the opportunity to meet other players.  A round-robin tournament is organized so that each player will play with other players over the course of the year.


 

SPANISH CONVERSATION

  Chairperson:  Ann Gorman, Claire Ashman  

This group will meet once a month to converse in Spanish in the homes of members.  Contact the chairperson for day, time and location.

  

TALES and YARNS

Meets:  1st Thursday 1:30-3:30.  This group meets monthly for social knitting and book of the month discussion.



TASTE OUR COOKIN’

Taste Our Cookin’ is a daytime group for those who like to cook, eat good food, and socialize. Meets monthly on the 4th Thursday   Church of the Nazarene; 1035 Wade St.; Iowa City, IA 52240.

Directions:  Take Dodge St. exit from I-80.  Go south on N. Dodge.  Turn left on N. Scott Blfd, turn right onto 1st Ave.  Turn left onto Muscatine, and then turn right onto Wade.  The church is on the right.

 There is no December luncheon


TENNIS

Meets weekly for doubles games on Friday,  9:30 - 11:00 a.m. at the Hawkeye Tennis Complex, 2820 Prairie Meadow Drive, Iowa City.  Weekly play is not required.  The schedule is made up in advance for each session so drop-ins cannot be accommodated.  Fall session begins in September, winter in January and spring in March.  You are welcome to join us for any or all sessions or to sign up as a substitute.

University Club Women's Investing Network

The purpose of this group is primarily for the education of the partners as they seek to wisely invest the assets of the partnership in stocks, bonds, and oterh securities.  For information on the procedure for visiting a meeting or requirements for bein accepted as a group partner, contact either of the persons listed above.


WRITERS' GROUP

Meets monthly on the 2nd Wednesday & 4th Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at Hills Bank, 2621 Muscatine Avenue, Iowa City.  Members read and critique each other's work and share tips on workshops and publications.  Anyone with a desire to write may join.  They have published 2 books:  Ruthlessly Kind and Magic in Black and White.  Both are available for sale


WALKING, HIKING, BIKING

Meets:  Weekly on Friday, 10:00 a.m

The goal is to mix up the type of activity.  We will take local walks, hike on trails, or bike on designated bike trails.  Our excursions will finish with a sack lunch and socialization.  When biking or hiking, we may extend our range beyond the cities of Coralville and Iowa City.  All levels of abilities are welcome.

Organized monthly programs on anything involving home repair, do-it-yourself projects, gardening, handling power tools "greening" your home etc.

Wed. Sept. 14 - You will have the opportunity to meet the rest of the members, hear about exploits at the Dottie Ray Women Build for Habitat for Humanity, review and refine the plan for the rest of the year. Coralville Public Library

Wed. Oct. 12 - Coralville Library for a lesson on preparing the yard and gardens for winter

Wed. Nov. 8 - Field trip to the Amana Furniture Shor for lunch and tour.
