Spring is the time of new beginnings and Newcomers welcomes the new members of The University Club to join us for our Thursday Coffees. Ladies in their first four years of membership to The University Club, or ladies new to the area, are welcome to join us for our monthly program and some friendly socialization. We meet on the third Thursday of the month from 9:30 - 11:30am. Our activities are detailed in this issue of the Clarion, so please check us out! March 20th we will learn how to “Understand Investments Before and During Retirement”, on April 17th our program is on “How FEMA Works”, and in May we will gather to enjoy a Salad Luncheon. We meet at the Bread Garden Market at 9:30 during the summer so be sure to put June 19, July 17, and August 21st on your calendar! Come see what we are all about and make some new friends!

Coffee's in Detail: coffee time
September 19 Downtown Art Walk - 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Our community offers a rich variety of art venues.  Join us as we visit several local businesses to learn more about some of the art offerings available in downtown Iowa City.  We will gather at the Java House/Heirloom Salad Company at 9:30 for coffee.  During this social time, we can also enjoy the collection of Lasansky prints on display.  We will then proceed to the Chait Galleries, Beadology Iowa, The Paper Nest and The Artisans Gallery, all located within close proximity of the Java House.  Upon completion of the informal tours those who wish to spend addition time in any of those businesses may do so.  In addition, there are many other shops and restaurants in the area that you may wish to explore while you are downtown.
Directions:  From I-80 take the Dubuque St. exit (244) south to Iowa Ave., Parking is available in the ramp near the corner of Iowa Ave. and Linn St.  Another ramp is available at the corner of Linn St. and Burlington St.  The Java House/Heirloom Salad Company is located next to the Pedestrian Mall at 211 E. Washington St.

Come join us for some tailgating fun.  Brats, potato salad, desserts, and soft drinks will be provided.  Please bring your favorite tailgating snacks/salad, and any alcoholic beverage that you enjoy.  We will e-mail everyone the time oce it is announced by the TV programmers.  Spouses or significan others are welcome.
Directions:  From I-80, take the Dodge Street exit (246).  Turn left on Scott Blvd. Continue to Court Street and turn left.  Continue several blocks and turn right onto Arlington Drive.  For more information, contact Connie Steele.

October 17 "Retail and Reinvention"

Mark Ginsberg, owner of M.C. Ginsberg, will share how his store is unusual and constantly evolving in many directions.  It is a retail store that concentrates on contemporary jewelry.  Etruscan and Egyptian revival (1840's), custom design jewelry, rare Swiss timepieces, biomedical research, physics, and the studion arts.  His store supports a number of arts events in the community.

We will meet at Yotopia Frozen Yogurt, 132 South Clinton St., Iowa City, for refreshments at 9:30 a.m.  Following this social time, we will walk to M. C. Ginsberg.

Directions:  From I-80 take Exit 244 and turn south on Dubuqeu St.  Follow Dubuque St. to Iowa Ave.  Turn right onto Iowa Ave.  t the next intersection, take a left onto Clinton St.  There is a parking ramp located at the corner of Clinton St. and Burlington St.  Two additional parking ramps are available, 1 located next to the Sheraton Hotel, at the corner of Burlington St. and Dubuque St. and another near the corner of Burlingotn St. and Linn St.  Yotopia Frozen Yogurt:  Located at the corner of Clinton St. and College St. next to the Pedestrian Mall in downtown Iowa City.  MC. Ginsberg:  Located at 110 East Washington St. in downtown Iowa City.

November 21 "Color & Decorating Trends Preview for 2014"

Jan Finlayson of TheLuxeZone will hare what's new in color and design for 2014.

Directions:  TheLuxe Zone is located at 1303 5th St. Coralville.  It is on the first floor at the west end of the Coralville Performing Arts Center building at the corner of 5th St. and 12th Ave. in Coralville
From I-80 take Exit 242 1st Ave. south, turn right on 5th St., then right on 12th Ave.,.  Free parking is available in the underground garage or at the side of the store on the west end, or in the Coralville Public Library lot.
