Heather Russell
I am a fifth year graduate student at the University of Iowa. I study knot homologies, which is a branch of topology. I organize the Underground Topology Seminar, which is a weekly, a student-only seminar where we work on deepening our understanding of the basics of topology. I co-organize the bi-monthly VIGRE 2nd Year Seminar. In this seminar, we provide advice and resources which will help graduate students new to our program to have a more productive and successful graduate career. I am also a co-organizer of Sonia Kovalevsky Day, an annual mathematics day for high school women. When I'm not doing math, I enjoy exercising, seeing live music, reading, writing, and cooking. To me, mathematics is truly an artform, and I am very grateful to have the opportunity to study and teach it full time.
