Sam Schmidt

2008-2009
I am a fifth year graduate student at the University of Iowa. I am currently studying under Professor Paul Muhly and am interested in operator theory and C*-algebras. Also, I am currently the “Heartland Liaison” to twelve nearby colleges that are part of the “Heartland Partnership”. Basically, I am the contact person, here at The University of Iowa, and help organize graduate student visits to these schools. These visits help to spread interest and excitement about mathematics, while giving our graduate students valuable experience. Outside of mathematics, my interested include Football, Softball, Volleyball and many other sports. I am very excited to be on a VIGRE fellowship this year; it will allow me to concentrate on research, which has been going very well lately.
