SCHOLARSHIPS

ADELE KIMM SCHOLARSHIP, 2007-2008

The Women's Studies Department invites applications from undergraduate students for the Adele Kimm Scholarship.  Please bring this opportunity to the attention of your students.
The Adele Kimm Scholarship is made possible by a bequest of Adele Kimm in honor of her brother, S. Conrad Kimm and her sister-in-law Hilda Kimm.
 
The 2008-2009 Adele Kimm Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Women's Studies.  One award of $1000 will be given.  Please note this award will be dispersed during the next academic year, and the recipient must be registered as a full-time student during both semesters. ADA JOHNSON/OTILIA MARIA FERNANDEZ SCHOLARSHIP, 2007-2008

The Women's Studies Department invites undergraduate student applications for the Ada Johnson/Otilia Maria Fernandez Women's Studies Scholarship.  Please bring this opportunity to the attention of your students.

In honor of Ada Johnson, one of the first black women students to graduate from The University of Iowa (1912) and Otilia Maria Fernandez, one of the first Hispanic woman graduates (1924), Women's Studies has established an annual scholarship of $1000 for a woman student of color who has taken courses in the Women's Studies Department or whose academic interests include some aspect of women's culture or experience.

The 2008 Ada Johnson/Otilia Maria Fernandez Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student.  Awards will be presented on the basis of academic performance and commitment to issues relevant to women of color.

APPLICATION MATERIALS SHOULD INCLUDE:
A. a cover page giving name, address, e-mail address, years of study at Iowa, and other forms of financial aid/work for the academic year 2007-2008;
B. transcripts of all undergraduate work;
C. a one-page statement describing your academic or career goals, and some ways in which these reflect a concern for women's lives; and
D. two letters of recommendation.

JANE A. WEISS MEMORIAL DISSERTATION SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

A $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a University of Iowa Ph.D. candidate whose dissertation focuses on issues pertaining to women and who has demonstrated commitment to women's issues through activism in the University or larger community.

Graduate students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Dissertation proposals must be accepted by the student's department before February 1, 2008, to qualify.

Applications and supporting documents must be received by February 8, 2008. The scholarship announcement will be made in March, 2008.
