Qualifying Paper
Students will complete a Qualifying Paper in the second semester of their second year in residence, demonstrating their theoretical and methodological strengths and their intellectual development in feminist studies.
Comprehensive Exams
Once students have successfully competed their Qualifying Papers, they will be eligible to begin the three Comprehensive Exams demonstrating competency in their chosen specializations, as recommended by their Advisory Committee and approved by the faculty who oversee the Ph.D. Program. These may be submitted at any time following completion of the Qualifying Paper, but they are generally expected during the third year. When they are satisfactorily completed the student will be admitted to candidacy and can begin work toward the dissertation.
