ADA JOHNSON/OTILIA MARIA FERNANDEZ SCHOLARSHIP, 2008-2009 The Women's Studies Department invites undergraduate student applications for the Ada Johnson/Otilia Maria Fernandez Women's Studies Scholarship. Please bring this opportunity to the attention of your students. In honor of Ada Johnson, one of the first black women students to graduate from The University of Iowa (1912) and Otilia Maria Fernandez, one of the first Hispanic woman graduates (1924), Women's Studies has established an annual scholarship of $1000 for a woman student of color who has taken courses in the Women's Studies Department or whose academic interests include some aspect of women's culture or experience. JANE A. WEISS MEMORIAL DISSERTATION SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT A $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a University of Iowa Ph.D. candidate whose dissertation focuses on issues pertaining to women and who has demonstrated commitment to women's issues through activism in the University or larger community. Graduate students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Dissertation proposals must be accepted by the student's department before February 1, 2009, to qualify.
