Counselor at WRAC:
Jerrod Koon

Jerrod Koon is a fifth year doctoral candidate in the Counseling Psychology program at The University of Iowa. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Community Counseling. He has received clinical training and provided psychotherapeutic services in a variety of settings with diverse populations, including community mental health centers, college counseling centers and a Veterans Administration hospital.

Jerrod has experience with a variety of clinical concerns. Some of his specific areas of interest and expertise include depression anxiety, relationship concerns, transition issues, gender/sexuality/identity, and trauma.

Jerrod’s approach to therapy is to create a space where clients feel comfortable exploring their presenting concerns. He believes that a collaborative and transparent therapeutic relationship is important for creating positive change and meeting goals. Due to the unique nature of presenting concerns, worldviews, situations and experiences, his goal is to create a therapeutic experience specifically tailored to each client. That means spending varying amounts of time exploring beliefs, behaviors, emotions, goals and relationships, depending upon what is needed. Therapy is a unique opportunity to identify strengths, overcome challenges, receive support and practice making positive change.
